Numismatic definitions

Like most fields of expertise, numismatics has its own lingo. Find the numismatic definition of a term by entering it in the field below.

Model Coin

Tiny pieces of metal, either reproducing the designs of existing coins (used as play money by children) or, more specifically, denoting patterns produced by Joseph Moore and Hyam Hyams in their attempts to promote an improved subsidiary coinage in nineteenth century Britain. These small coins were struck in bronze with a brass or silver centre and were designed to reduce the size of the existing cumbersome range of pence, halfpence and farthings.
